Through normal lenses you see everything very similar as through your very own eyes when wide ones force background away. All of them makes shooting a photo a little bit different. Big lenses can zoom even up to 20 times. If you need to bring background close you should decide on telephoto lenses. It comes to physics  a light does not pass the same way through plastic and glass. Another type of lenses are ones called zoom.
